Marital Bliss is a story about two lamps, bent together to form a heart and placed in a gallery, showcasing their “love” forged in steel, for all eternity…except for when the visitors leave. As night falls, the lamps come alive, and reveal their true feelings; that these lamps cannot stand each other. Appearances can be deceiving.
Idea Conception & Storyboarding
‘Marital Problems’ was conceptualised as an animated short, inspired by some work I had done early in 2023 for designer Pierre Castignola, and the famous Pixar lamp. I was translating some of Pierre’s physical works to the 3D space (pictured below) and the lamps I created inspired a sense of movement in me. They formed the initial spark that led to the story of ‘Marital Problems’. The storyboard is pictured to the right.
Set Design
These images show the progression of the set design for this short. I wanted to create a simple but polished gallery setting that wouldn’t distract from the drama between the lamps.
