Gunnar’s Daughter is a project set in medieval Iceland, but tells a profound and topical story about the abuse women face as the victims of fragile masculinity and matters of honour. Leaning into traditional “viking” stereotypes graphically for this project felt inappropriate, but at the same time it had to be clear at a glance where and when this story is set. The Norse-inspired typography sits lightly over cinematic images invoking a sense of bleak natural beauty and the harshness of the frozen north.
